HAVANA MEETS KINGSTON IN DUB
A companion album to the critically acclaimed 'Havana Meets Kingston', this is Gaudi's dub take on the original sessions recorded in Cuba and Jamaica, at Egrem Studios in Havana (Buena Vista Social Club studio) and Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston (Bob Marley's studio in Jamaica) by Mista Savona, this is a world first project bringing music together from both islands. It's a sound-combination that meshes their distinct musical pathways, effortlessly blending Cuban percussion and melodies with reggae's rumbling basslines and roots rhythms, expertly dubbed by Gaudi at his Metatron Studio in London UK, with overdubs and additional mixes from Savona at various studios around the world.
This ambitious project features a lineup of incredible Jamaican and Cuban talent, including reggae stars Sly & Robbie on drum and bass, Ernest Ranglin and Winston 'Bopee' Bowen on guitars, percussion by Bongo Herman and Shaun 'Bugzy' Anderson and vocals from Jamaican stars such as Cornel Campbell, Prince Alla, Lutan Fyah, Leroy Sibbles of The Heptones, Cali P, Aza Lineage and Randy Valentine to name just a few. On the Cuban side the album features Rolando Luna (piano) and Barbarito Torres (laud) of Buena Vista Social Club fame, percussionist Changuito of Los Van Van, Yaroldy Abreu & Julito Padron of Irakere, Oliver Valdes from Havana Cultura and vocalists include Brenda Navarrete, Maikel Ante, Solis, and Eugenio Rodríguez 'El Raspa' - in fact there are over 30 Cuban musicians featured on the album.
It was during Savona's first visit to Cuba that he could imagine the sounds of Cuban Rumba mixed with Jamaican Nyabinghi (the folkloric styles unique to each island), and with this unique musical vision he embarked on this wonderful project!
Gaudi and Savona are not new to each other, having already worked on a number of reggae projects together in the past, including a Gaudi remix for Savona's album with SIzzla, as well as a dub for the brilliant single 'Carnival' featuring Randy Valentine & Solis.
Both individual credentials are nothing short of astonishing for these two fearless producers, with Gaudi's chart-topping works for Steel Pulse, Horace Andy, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Mad Professor, Johnny Clarke, Hollie Cook, Dub FX, Mykal Rose, Barrington Levy, Maxi Priest, Max Romeo, Don Letts, Desmond Dekker, African Head Charge, and Dennis Bovell among many others. And Mista Savona has worked with a host of Jamaican legends including Alton Ellis, Anthony B, Sizzla, Capleton, Burro Banton, Horace Andy, Sly & Robbie, Big Youth, Clinton Fearon, Turbulence and many more.
This dub masterpiece is both an essential companion album to Havana Meets Kingston, as well as being a powerful album in its own right.
